THE HOLLYWOOD CASINO
Centrally located to the Simpson Bay area, one of the island's great entertainment hot spots is Pelican Key with the Hollywood Casino located right in the middle of the Simpson Bay Resort.
As you drive through Simpson Bay on Welfare road, you can’t miss the GIGANTIC Las Vegas-esque real neon sign across from the Simpson Bay Yacht Club which reads “HOLLYWOOD CASINO”. If you turn at the sign and follow that road, it will take you up a very steep hill, and perched at the top of the hill is the Hollywood Casino. There’s usually plenty of parking or you may valet park your car, just pull through the portico on your left.
When you enter the Hollywood Casino, the first thing you notice is an abundance of slot machines, bright colored walls and carpet and several interesting statues. Further into the casino, the walls are painted with murals of famous entertainers of yesteryear and movie memorabilia. There’s a bit of a 1950’s Las Vegas feel to the Hollywood Casino which is a really nice change of pace. This attractive casino lets you play table games and slots, while giving you the feeling "of being a high roller".
The Hollywood Casino has 20 tables waiting for you to try your luck: Black Jack, Roulette, Let It Ride, 3 Card Poker, Punto Banco, and Texas Hold-em Poker. For the most part, the Roulette tables are usually very full, however it’s relatively easy to find a spot at a Black Jack table or 3 Card Poker table. All of the dealers at the Hollywood Casino are very friendly and willing to help the inexperienced player so as to fit in, learn and not feel uncomfortable or hurried. The casino also has private high roller tables. The casino hosts very reasonably priced poker games where the buy in can be more reasonable than other casinos on the island. While there is no sports book, there is a bar where you can watch all the latest games in between the numerous slots and gaming tables. Although not as large in size as other casinos on the island, this casino still has most of the amenities one would look for in a full-service casino.
Once you’ve tried your luck at the tables, there’s plenty more to do. Within walking distance around the casino are many restaurants and nightlife spots, including several options right on the water. The Red Piano, situated directly below the Hollywood Casino has singing piano players nightly in a great lounge atmosphere and is very popular with locals and tourists. Across the street is a little French Brasserie and bakery called “Bon Appetite”, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and a great place to enjoy a meal. Across the street on the Marina level of the Simpson Bay Resort and Villas is The Stone restaurant, where fantastic meals are prepared on your own personal hot stone, it’s delicious interactive dining at its best. The bottom line, you won’t be left without a fun and memorable evening with great options at the Hollywood Casino.
